Thuvakkam – Be The Change

Newsletter Edition: Vol 3. Issue 09 – September 2022

Hey there!

Glad you could make it! The month of August gives us good memories of founding Thuvakkam. The memories of ‘Be the Change you wish to’ came to life with our first ever event, 8 years ago. To wish is something, but to act it out in confidence is another, it is what makes us different. This month reminded us of the importance of volunteers and how the team is built strongly from change activists. As our union government initiated Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of independence, we have integrated our ideal of volunteering for change into the initiative “75 Days of Change” . With all such great beginnings this August, seeds of change were sown, acts of kindness were extended and shoots of ideas were planted.

Stepping into the 9th year!

When we first began Thuvakkam, we didn’t know we would witness 8 years of social work. Today, with 945+ events, engaging 24,865+ volunteers, it has been a journey of highs and lows, teachings and learnings. We are grateful to our partners, who have played a vital role in bringing our visions to reality. We are ever grateful to our members, and volunteers who have been the extended members of Thuvakkam team. Thuvakkam, as a team, has grown to accommodate the growing nature of the organization.

The foundation day was conducted with ease by the organizing committee along with the team, headed by Mr. Aritharan. The event acted as a reminder to our journey thus far and motivates us for more to come. Words of wisdom were enunciated by our chief guest Mrs. Vidhya Ramachandran IRS (Retd.) and our guests of honor Mr. CK Kumar, CEO Alert ops and Bharathi Tamizhan, online editor, the Hindu (Tamil). Their presence throughout our journey is remarkable and it was our pleasure to have them in our celebration. The highlights of the event began with the prologue of series of events happened the former year along with updates from each department; the goals set for the current year, interlaced with the government’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative; the epilogue was with Mr. Krishna Kumar CEO, Thuvakkam with the vote of thanks. The final unravel of ‘volunteer of the year’ , ‘member of the year’ and ‘employee of the year’ added a tinge of excitement to the event. Stepping into the 9th year, we have reminiscences of every step we walked. The journey further is filled with possibilities and opportunities, which we are looking forward to embracing.
