India is an emerging and developing country, but in spite of its developing nature the country is having a really complicated growth pattern when it comes to rural development. Yes, it is true that there are still many rural parts in India that does not have the basic facilities such as, electricity, education, sanitation, etc. The residents from these rural areas have to face many difficulties and hindrances before they are able to get these basic facilities. To a large extent, the people from these rural areas are below the poverty line and belong to socially marginalised communities like tribal communities, therefore they are not able to afford these facilities at the costs at which they are provided at.

Thuvakkam’s main objective is to create a better world for the future generations. Rather than waiting for someone to begin the process, Thuvakkam always tries and takes the matter into their hands and starts to work on them. One such work that Thuvakkam started for the betterment of the society is helping out the tribal communities at the rural areas, who are deprived of the basic necessities.

The tribal village is called Janakipuram and is situated near Madhurandhagam, in Chengalpattu district. Thuvakkam has been in contact with this tribal village for three years and has been assisting the village in various ways including providing them with basic amenities, helping them with employment opportunities, teaching them on how to do home gardening and harvesting their own vegetation, and also by celebrating festivals like Pongal with them. Thuvakkam has also been a support to them during this covid-19 pandemic. Thuvakkam has recently provided 15 families from the tribal village with solar lights with the help of CSR funding by CNSI company. These solar lights were procured from Green Light Planet India who are energy partners for this activity.

The residents of this village were people who did not have electricity from the initial days, therefore the students and kids of these families had difficulties to study and do their works during the night. In order to help the students and also to help the residents to manage during the night time and to protect them from insects during the night, Thuvakkam came forward to help them with solar light system. By helping them with solar lights, Thuvakkam has helped the students who are the future of our country to have the opportunity of learning and having a bright future. Thus Thuvakkam has worked towards the betterment of the community.
