About the Thuvakkam – Environment Fellowship

The Thuvakkam – Environment Fellowship is a 6 month, paid, immersive program designed to empower young changemakers to lead afforestation projects, collaborate with communities, and foster environmental sustainability. Through this transformative journey, fellows gain hands-on experience in tree plantation, community mobilization, and ecosystem
restoration.

Vision: To inspire & create younger generation towards environmental sustainability.

Mission: To inspire and equip a generation of leaders to drive large-scale afforestation initiatives, enhance biodiversity, and create sustainable solutions for environmental challenges.

Fellowship Locations: Bengaluru, Chennai (KTCC), Delhi, Hyderabad, and Ramanathapuram.

Eligibility & Benefits

  • Who Can Apply: Graduates or final-year students aged below 30.
  • Financial Support: Monthly stipend of ₹25,000.
  • Professional Development: Comprehensive training in afforestation techniques, environmental science, and community engagement.
  • Placement Locations: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Ramanathapuram.
  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India.

Fellowship Interventions

Fellows will

  • Tree Plantation: Organize and execute large-scale plantation drives.
  • Community Engagement: Mobilize communities and foster local ownership of green initiatives.
  • Capacity Building: Train volunteers and local stakeholders in sustainable practices.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Ensure the survival and growth of planted trees through regular follow-ups.
  • Partnership Development: Collaborate with schools, government bodies, and corporates for impactful afforestation projects.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Conduct workshops and events to promote the importance of green cover.

Where Will the Fellow Work?

  • Fellows will be placed in one of the program’s focus cities: Bengaluru, Chennai (KTCC), Delhi, Hyderabad, or Ramanathapuram.
  • Placement involves working with schools, local communities, and government agencies to achieve plantation targets.
