Restoring Water, Reviving Life

Thuvakkam launched Project Blue Zone in 2023 to address the growing need for sustainable water conservation. As our environmental work expanded, we recognized that restoring and creating water catchments is key to supporting both communities and ecosystems. This project aims to recharge groundwater, revive traditional water bodies, and build resilience against water scarcity.

Why Project Blue Zone?

As Thuvakkam expanded its green cover across urban and rural spaces, the need for sustainable water sources became evident. Many communities, especially those in farming and climate-vulnerable regions, faced recurring water scarcity, dried-up ponds, and degraded channels.

Project Blue Zone was envisioned to address this critical need. It aims to restore and create water catchments that not only recharge groundwater but also support agriculture, biodiversity, and daily community use. By using scientific planning, native eco-knowledge, and community involvement, the project strengthens water resilience — ensuring that both people and ecosystems can thrive, even in times of climate stress.

It’s not just about water — it’s about long-term sustainability, livelihood support, and climate action at the grassroots.
